Why I Chose To Be A Journalist

Growing A New Dream.

Growing up, I had a dream of playing professional soccer. The game of soccer is something I thought about always, and it was an obsession. Later on in life, I ended up playing semi-pro soccer and then realized that playing this sport at a high level was not for me, which caused me to spiral into a world of emotions that brought on my depression. I had no idea what was happening to me, the term depression was so foreign, and I wouldn’t admit to the fact that I was susceptible to this illness. This was a drastic crossroads in my life. I had no idea what I wanted to do. All my thoughts and dreams of soccer died. I left the semi-professional soccer team and started to do a lot of soul searching that helped me hone my other passions like writing. However, my writing was just the stepping stone onto this journey. I soon realized that I wanted to combine my writing with the knowledge I would acquire to change this world. A lot of topics like depression are subjects that I find interesting because I’ve felt that emotion. I lived it.

However, soccer is a topic that I am still passionate about. Even though my dream of playing professionally has diminished, I feel new goals have been created that I know I will achieve thanks to the lessons I’ve learned through soccer. I chose this field because I hope to share knowledge with people that wouldn’t have considered learning about things I am sharing. I want to help influence a generation that is lacking in patience and show them different elements of information that can help them grow into society. Being a facilitator of information is a task that I take very seriously. I hope I can be a sports journalist for soccer, and possibly a journalist that is given the freedom to find new information about depression, or even a journalist that can find new information about this planet that has not been brought to the general public yet. I hope I can do my teachers, my peers, and journalism proud by being a respected journalist and myself.
